Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is out next week, and Marvel really doesn’t want you to forget it. The latest teaser for the film highlights Shang-Chi’s fighting skills—which are more than deserving of the spotlight.
“My father trained me to be the Ten Rings’ greatest weapon,” Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) says, and then he goes on to ably demonstrate just what that means. This trailer uses a lot of previously seen footage, but adds in more bits from the scaffolding fight, more Michelle Yeoh, and more images from what seems like the film’s climactic battle. (Also, someone needs to tell me who that awesome looking hooded figure is.) There’s also an emphasis on Shang-Chi’s friendship with Katy (Awkwafina), who seems to be present when a lot of wild action scenarios are going down.
Early reviews for director Destin Daniel Cretton’s first Marvel film are starting to roll in, and are generally pretty positive, praising the excellent fight choreography, an endearing coming-of-age story, and the promising shape of Marvel’s next phase. Also, importantly, viewers have noted that Tony Leung, playing Shang-Chi’s father Wenwu, is smoking hot.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in theaters next Friday, September 3rd.
